Representation

As most of my actors that I plan to use within my video are young – I have decided to present youth in a positive light of them having fun e.g. the dancing scenes. I have decided not to portray them in a negative stereotypes such as drugs and alcohol, which youth are often presented in throughout the media, as I want to emphasis positivity throughout my video. Additionally, as most of the actors that I plan to use are female I have decided against using close up shots or shots which cause them to be attractive or sexualised in anyway and not follow Laura Mulvey’s Male Gaze theory – as I believe that females shouldn’t be portrayed in this way, just for the audience’s attention. Also I have decided to use both male and female actors for when my main actor goes on different dates to portray an element of the queer representation and the naturalness of it. I think that these representations will appeal to my audience as I chosen to present all social groups of youth and women in positive ways, which is effective because it further emphasis the song’s inner meaning of positivity.
